Welcome to the Engelbart Dialogs blog — a place to discuss Doug Engelbart’s philosophy. The content will be updated shortly from our most recent publication: Engelbart Hypothesis, by Valerie Landau and Eileen Clegg in conversation with Doug Engelbart, published by the NextNow Collaboratory NextPress.

I am looking forward to the discussion, as well as reading the book! Engelbart (1992) provided this quote, among others, that has me wondering how to address the human side of the equation (human system + tool system = augmentation system):
“…cultivating the appropriate paradigm about how to view and approach the future will in the pursuit of high-performance organizations be the single most critical success factor of all.”

We hope to post the individual essays by Doug and others for comments by the community. The book is an evolving artifact of a very large vision. What a privilege!

What a joy to be able to read the book! I have read Doug’s papers and have really struggled to put his ideas into the right words. With the book, I felt like I was having a fireside chat. What a joy! So many times, while I was reading, I jumped out of the chair because I feel that I now have the right vocabulary to share things which I have wanted to share for a long time. Thank you Doug, Valerie, and Eileen! You have done a wonderful thing and I offer my thanks and congratulations!

Darla – This means a huge amount coming from someone who has the tech (+ human!) savvy to create the DKR of DKRs. It is a pleasure to be with you in the club of “making the impossible possible”

Reminder:
Whatever words Doug or any of us use to communicate are the PERFECT words for the speaker…the problem comes for the listener/reader who will then process those word into their own framework. THAT is were communications often break down and frustration creeps in.
